Robbers fire hail of bullets at reaction officer in Clairwood

Six suspects were robbing a service station in the area when the reaction officer arrived.

A REACTION officer is recovering in hospital after he was caught in the crossfire of a business robbery shootout in Clairwood on Monday night (October 25).

ET Rapid Response’s emergency control centre received a panic activation from a service station in South Coast Road and immediately dispatched armed response units.

“Our first response officer was met by a hail of gunfire as six suspects were busy robbing the store upon arrival. He managed to retreat from his vehicle for cover. The suspects fired shots while attempting to flee and sped off in a silver Toyota Corolla new shape,” said ET Rapid Response’s managing director, Tony Lokker.

The reaction officer was shot in the leg during the shootout.

Paramedics, various private security companies, SAPS and the Metro Police K9 were also on scene.

Paramedics treated the injured man on site. He was transported to a hospital and underwent surgery on this morning (Tuesday, October 26). The bullet was successfully removed.

“The prognosis is that he will regain full use of his leg once healed,” added Lokker.
