Montclair police successfully secure convictions

House robbery

A WOMAN was held at gunpoint by six unknown men on Starling Avenue, Yellowwood Park. The Friday, September 17 happened on the woman’s arrival home at about 19:35, where according to Montclair police’s spokesperson, Captain Derek Vijiam, she was confronted aggressively with firearms.

“They stormed into her house threatening her with the firearms pointed at her. They removed items from the house and made their getaway with electronic equipment and cellphones,” he said.

He added that three men were subsequently arrested in Durban by the Flying Squad on Tuesday, September 28. Siyanda Thabiso Shozi, Mazwi Ngobese and Thusi Siza Maluleka were apprehended by the police.
 
“They were found with three firearms and property taken from the house robbery in Starling Avenue. They were positively linked to the house robbery with the recovered property and their unlicensed firearms,” Vijiam said.
 
The suspects were charged by Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini of Montclair police detectives. They appeared at the Durban Court on Friday, October 8 and were remanded at Westville Prison for further investigation.
 
Attempted murder and carjacking
A MAN was shot in the leg in a carjacking on Saturday, September 11 at about 19:00. He was parked at the corner of Down Avenue and Ronald Road in Montclair when he was approached by three unknown men.
 
“One of them got to the driver’s side window and pointed a firearm at him. He demanded that the victim alights the vehicle. While in the process of alighting, the suspect shot the victim in his right leg. The suspects got into the vehicle and drove off,” said Vijiam.
 
The injured man was taken to Wentworth Hospital for medical treatment and was later discharged. The car was fitted with a tracking device.
 
“Both the tracking company and ET Rapid Response picked up a signal in Emalangeni area where they found the vehicle and arrested the three suspects. Investigations are continuing,” he added.
 
Following the incident, the Durban Flying Squad successfully arrested Mthokozisi Cibane, Sandile Vincent Vilakazi and Siyabonga Fortune Msomi.
 
“They were charged by investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sifiso Shezi and appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 5. They were remanded at Westville Prison with no bail. Their next appearance will be on Monday, November 15.”
 
Business robbery
A SECURITY guard was on duty when he was approached by a knife yielding man on Saturday, September 18 at 00:10 at Victoria Seafood on South Coast Road.
 
“The unknown man threatened the victim by pointing the sharp knife at him and made him put his hands up in submission. He held him up in a room while the suspect removed copper cables,” said Vijiam.
 
The suspect, Bhekamanwe Mazibuko, was arrested by Detective Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini of Saps Montclair detectives later that day at about 19:00.
 
He was charged and appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court where he was denied bail and is remanded at Westville Prison.
