TWO men in Wentworth were arrested for the possession of over 2000 heroin capsules and more than 200 rounds of live ammunition.
Members of the Provincial Drugs and Firearm Unit swooped in at a residence on Silvertree Road on Tuesday night, October 19, to execute a search warrant.
According to the police, the premises was identified as the residence of an alleged drug dealer known as Stomach.
“The premises were breached after it became known that suspects in the outbuilding of the house were attempting to dispose of evidence. A successful arrest of the two men was effected.”
“They were found in possession of a plastic packet containing about 2401 blue and white capsules of heroin, 203 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, 33 live rounds of 7.65 ammunition, two magazines, an electronic scale and R350 in cash. The drugs including the ammunition have a value of approximately R74 000,” provincial police said in a statement.
The two men were detained for dealing in heroin and the unlawful possession of ammunition. The drugs and ammunition were seized by the police.
One suspect was later released on bail on a pending criminal matter.
The police said the ammunition recovered was possibly kept for gang-related shootings in and around Wentworth.
