Yellowwood Conservancy annouces new corporate member

THE Yellowwood Conservancy announced and honoured their 2020 corporate member on Tuesday, September, 21.

“Yellowwood Park SuperSpar has been an active member of the community in that they do projects around the area that’s why the Yellowwood Conservancy nominated them as our corporate member of the year. The store maintains and looks after the municipal land just outside their premises as though it was their own. They go the extra mile in beautifying the surrounding area and taking pride in the community. This made them the ideal candidate for the conservancy,” said Yellowwood Conservancy chairman and ward 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter.

The conservancy has been in existence since the 1970s and prioritises nature conservation and environmental welfare in local communities. According to Hegter, it is arguably one of the oldest urban conservancies in the country. “We look after conservation outside of protected areas. We have about 15 active members who attend meetings regularly and a lot of supports in the areas we work in. We do various initiatives such as environmental education presentations at schools, tree planting, clean-ups and the eradication of the invasion of alien plants,” said long standing member, Andrew Hart who would like to see more young people get involved in the conservancy’s projects.
