Wentworth author delves into thought-provoking issues in latest book

James’ careful use of creative words and relatable terms paint the picture of the early fifties when the Mobil Oil Refinery was established in Durban.

TALENTED and award-winning author, Cyril James has produced another literary gem, titled ‘Austerville Shutdown of Fear’.

James’ careful use of creative words and relatable terms paint the picture of the early fifties when the Mobil Oil Refinery was established in Durban. The book is a heart-gripping story of a young woman’s journey through life in Austerville in Wentworth. Ethel’s fears are misunderstood by the community she loves in and this makes her feel more insecure. She’s married to a womaniser and a man with a thirst for the finer things in life at all costs. In a tragic turn of events, Ethel has to confront the fears that have gripped her for many years. She has to make choices that will determine her future.

“It is based on a true story showing how social stigma and discrimination complicate mental health problems for those who live with it,” explained James who added that the book is currently being published and will be available for purchase soon.

James has seven self-published books to his name to date. He was awarded the Feather Quill Award for meritorious contribution to literature, arts and culture in 2019 by the Durban Book Fair.

He promises his readers a well-written and captivating story that intertwines infidelity, heartbreak, and sacrifice.
