A MAN was held at gunpoint on Monday, 17 May at about 11.30am on Grimsby Road, Mobeni.

“The complainant was driving his courier vehicle making deliveries. On completion, while seated in the vehicle, he was approached by two unknown men, one with a firearm that was pointed at him.”

“He was physically removed from the driver’s seat. One of the suspects jumped into the vehicle and drove off to Lamontville where all parcels were removed. They left the victim and vehicle on an unknown road. The victim was assisted by police after his ordeal,” said Montclair police’s communications officer, Captain Derek Vijiam.

Carjacking

A MAN was carjacked at gunpoint on Thursday, 13 May at about 12.30am at the robots between the N2 offramp to Chatsworth southbound.

“He was cut off by a driver of a Toyota Etios. While still seated in his Toyota Quantum, the victim was confronted by four men who pointed a firearm at him.”

“He was forced to move out and leave keys in the ignition. One of the suspects got into the vehicle and drove off with the taxi. The victim was waylaid into the Etios and taken further down the south coast. He was dropped off at the Umkomaas Bridge. He made his back to Montclair where he opened his case,” said Vijiam.

Attempted carjacking

A MAN was held at gunpoint on Fairbridge Road in Woodlands on Wednesday, 19 May at about 3.37pm. According to Vijiam, the man was standing outside the company vehicle he was driving when he saw an armed man moving towards him.

“He was awaiting the arrival of his customer when he noticed unknown male running towards the vehicle with a firearm in his possession. The suspect pointed the firearm at driver and demanded his vehicle keys.”

“He also demanded personal items from both driver and passenger. The driver refused to hand over his belongings and the suspect went over to the passenger where a physical battle ensued.”

“The driver came around and they both overpowered the suspect. A police official assisted with the arrest of the suspect, Vusumuzi Khumalo, who was detained at SAPS Montclair,” he said.

Upon investigation, Khumalo was linked to an armed robbery of a similar courier vehicle by the Lamontville Police. He was charged and sent to Durban Court on Monday, 24 May.
