BAYVIEW Football Club hosted the first league matches for the Durban Central Football Association on Sunday, May 16.
It was a buzz of excitement as the U6, U8 and U15 took to the field to play competitive soccer for the first time in over a year.
The U6 played against Wentworth Warriors and the final score was 5-0 to Warriors.
The U8 the game which saw Ashley Rovers from Pinetown take on Wentworth Warriors ended with no goals scored by the final blow of the whistle.
“We missed a lot of games but it was our first league game and I think the boys played well. Other than a few mistakes here and there, I’m happy,” said Wentworth Warriors coach, Carl Webster.
Sharing similar sentiments was Ashley Rovers coach, Clinton Vandayar. “I feel like both the teams played exceptionally well. There’s more practice to be done and with that, the players will develop more and the team will perform better.
The U15A match saw Bayview play against United Juniors and ended with a final score of 3-1 to Bayview. “Both teams played very well, unfortunately for United Juniors, the opposition was a bit too strong for them. Bayview boys played very well and knocked the ball around throughout the field and gave them the opportunity to score the goals. We just need to continue to keep up their consistency. Goal scorers were, Kealyn Smith, Oluhle Canham and Callan Goliath,” said Bayview Football Club coach, Mario Labuschagne.
