Charnete’s dedication to the elderly will leave a mark

Asked about her experience while working at John Dunn and within the Wentworth community, Charnete said it has become a home that will always have a place in her heart.

THE Association for the Aged (Tafta) John Dunn House bid farewell to its beloved and trusted area manager, Charnete Fouche after four amazing years of service to the elderly.

Her journey with the organisation dates back to 2008 where she first started out as a buyer at Tafta. She then moved on to the Wellness Centres to became a senior manager where she served for three years in that position.

“I moved over to the accommodation side of Tafta. We did some restructuring and I became an area manager in 2017 and moved to the south srea for Tafta looking after John Dunn House and Tafta Park in Bellair.”

Charnete studied and obtained a Bachelor in Business Administration which qualified her for her supervisory role to the care team responsible for elder’s physical well-being.

“I have however undergone several other care-related training courses including the Eden Alternative Associate training, Train the trainer and then Path to Mastery programmes which concern the model of care Tafta subscribes to in caring for our elders.”

Tafta area manager, Charnete Fouche will be missed by the elderly she served at John Dunn House in Wentworth.

She has also undergone palliative care training conducted by hospice. Under her supervision, John Dunn House became the fifth home to receive Eden Alternative accreditation in South Africa. “Eden lies close to my heart as Eden means the elder living in John Dunn has a say over their life. It’s their home, I just work there,” she said.

Asked about her experience of working at John Dunn and within the Wentworth community, Charnete said it has become a home that will always have a place in her heart.

“I have loved working at John Dunn. The people in the home and the Wentworth community are the kindest, most generous and most humble people I have ever met in my life. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work in this area as I have learnt and grown so much over the last four years.”

What she loves most about what she does is working with older persons. “I don’t think there is something as gratifying as working and getting to know them. They have the knowledge and the stories that they share from years ago is absolutely amazing. The love and appreciation that they give you is indescribable. I found my purpose in life.”

She now looks forward to beginning a new chapter in Upper Berea and Morningside areas where she will look after seven homes; Tafta on Ridge, Lucas Gardens, Ocean View, Cambridge Gardens, St Martins, St Catharine’s Close.

“I look forward mostly to getting to know new elders, many of whom I already know, so it’s a happy reunion when they do see me which makes the heart feel warm and fuzzy! I’m also looking forward to working with a new team and just making our elders happy. Happy team, happy elders,” said an excited Charnete.
