Soccer training resumes at Fynnlands Football Club

The chairman strongly encourages parent participation during training.

TRAINING has resumed at the Fynnlands Football Club and management looks forward to seeing players back on the field.

After setbacks due to the lockdown, coaches hope the club bounces back even stronger as it prepares for the upcoming season.

“The pandemic affected us big time last year. We’re trying to stick to all the protocols to get people back because a lot of them are not back at training. I recently spoke to a parent and asked where their children were and they said they were not aware of the fact that we’re training again,” said chairman, Ryan Cyfert.

He highlighted the lack of participation from parents during training. “It’s mostly across the Bluff, all the sporting clubs seem to battle with support. I personally think that parent participation isn’t there anymore. We’re almost regarded as babysitters.”

“The children get dropped off and the parents come back an hour and 20 minutes later, which is not what we want. We have good facilities at the club – there’s a nice takeaway and a bar, they could have something to eat while watching their children train,” he said.

With a wealth of over 12 years experience as the club manager, Ben Trembath said although there is added administration, they’re doing their best to ensure Covid-19 protocol is observed.

“There is now a bit more work involved but we are managing. When the children arrive, they sign the register, we sanitise them and social distance as much as we can during training. This is to give the parents peace of mind as well, which is the main thing,” he said.

Another addition to the club this year is a player development academy, the Vision Football Academy, which offers one-on-one and small group training.

It also has a competitive open side team that entered into a partnership with Fynnland FC to combine the two teams to create the Fynnland Vision Academy.

“The academy also offers a broad scouting network that can assist players to play internationally. The leagues and teams we currently have links with are Dortmund in Germany, Luton Town in England, Rikeka in Russia and a selected few major league soccer teams,” Vision Football Academy’s Sage Maujean.

Juniors train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. U15 and U17 train on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and then the Fynnlands Vision Football Academy train on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
