Operation to clean up Clairwood continues

OPERATION Good Hope is in full swing to uplift and clean up the community of Clairwood.

Mandela Park Informal Settlement on Dayal Road and Khayelitsha Informal Settlement on Horseshoe Road were the main focus areas on Wednesday, 31 March. A clean-up was spearheaded by Durban Solid Waste (DSW) and a law enforcement blitz was conducted by Metro Police on the day.

The operation is run by the South Durban Basin Area Based Management Unit (SDB ABM), in partnership with various departments and stakeholders.

“The purpose of this interdepartmental approach is to improve the socio-economic and infrastructural conditions of the whole of eThekwini Municipality. It is imperative that we receive full support from officials for these operations to become effective and yield successful outcomes. We can only achieve this by working together in uniformity so that we can make a difference in the lives of our communities,” said SDB ABM’s Irene Chetty.

Senior manager of the SDB ABM office, Eurakha Singh stated these operations are a directive from their COO as instituted by eThekwini’s mayor. “Our office’s role is to facilitate and fast track service delivery in all our areas. These operations that take place with various line departments throughout Ethekwini is to ensure all comply with the by-laws. We aim to make a difference every day in the lives of our community,” said Singh.
