Voxpop: Public concerns on the Covid-19 third wave

The SUN took to the streets to find out whether people were concerned about the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 in the country.

SCIENTISTS and government officials have long warned of a third wave of Covid-19 infections, possibly soon after the Easter weekend. KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane recently called for the public to limit movement and worshippers to exercise caution ahead of the upcoming weekend due to the super-spreader potential this carries.

The SUN took to the streets to find out whether people were concerned about the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 in the country.

Michelle Thomas: I believe there will be a third wave. This is a man-made virus and if man has predicted something about it then it will happen. It’s a big concern because I think this is the most dangerous one that’s coming.

Marriot Coetzee: I think the third wave will be at its strongest when we hit Winter because that’s when people are most likely to get the flu. Hopefully, the government can roll out the vaccination quicker to avoid this. People need to continue to keep safe and follow all the necessary protocols.

Ndalo Mthembu: As a high school learner, my academics are my main priority. 2020 was already a challenging year. I think a third wave would further limit my school attendance and force us to work from home more.

Chantal Van Blerk: I think the third wave will hit us by the end of May. This will inevitably affect all of us, but I rate that we can’t go into another heavy lockdown because it will prove economic suicide. We’re simply going to crash if we do.
