Missing woman’s body found in shallow grave in Wentworth

The deceased has been identified as a 39 year-old woman who had been reported missing on Sunday, 21 March.

POLICE are investigating a case of murder after discovering a body in a shallow grave in Wentworth on Wednesday, 24 March.

The deceased has been identified as a 39 year-old woman who had been reported missing on Sunday, 21 March.

Shortly after making the discovery, a 19-year-old man handed himself in at Wentworth Police station and confessed to murder.

“The officer, to whom it was reported to, then arranged Vispol members and the detectives on call to attend to the scene of murder in Engelbrecht Road. The scene was found to be inside the yard behind one of the houses in the area,” said Wentworth Police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

Detectives called for the Metro Search and Rescue Unit to assist in exhuming the body from the shallow grave. “The motive for her murder is unknown and an investigation is pending,” said Gumede.

The deceased’s body had been taken to the government mortuary. The suspect has been detained for murder.
