Merebank community remains in capable hands

PR ward 75 councillor, Sthembiso Ngema has assured the community of Merebank

“THE community of Merebank can rest assured that I will continue to serve and represent them.”

This is word from PR ward 75 councillor, Sthembiso Ngema following speculation that he would no longer be able to fulfil his civil duties as he runs for the position of deputy provincial chairperson for the Democratic Alliance (DA).

“People are under the impression that should I be elected then I’m going to move to provincial level and they won’t have a councillor who supports them like I do. That is the main worry in the community. However, what would happen, should I be successfully elected, is that I would serve in the top structure of the party in the province, not in a government sphere, which I do as a councillor. I would serve in the provincial management committee (PMC) as well as the provincial executive committee (PEC). Yes, there would be extra duties, because I would need to look at the entirety of the province in terms of political campaigns especially with the upcoming 2021 local government elections later this year. Other responsibilities would also include the disciplinary of councillors, sitting in provincial meetings, empowering our members and to structure the province in the right direction.

“I will still be a councillor in the area, helping the community and dealing with the issues that are affecting the people of Merebank. I know the challenges that they face and I know how important it is to have a capable public representative deployed in that area to be able to assist them. I’m well aware of their needs and concerns. It is my job, duty and responsibility to make sure that whatever they are complain about, I take escalate to the city. If anything new comes up, I will make it priority to inform the community,” said Ngema who has worked with the community of Merebank since 2011.
