Mongoose mania at Crow

Crow is an NGO based in Yellowwood Park that rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, orphaned or displaced wild animals. They rely entirely on the generosity of the public to remain operational.

IT’S been raining little mongoose at Crow since the start of baby season in November. The centre has received a whopping 28 mongoose babies.

“Mongoose live together in large troops called a ‘business’ and mothers have up to four pups at a time. Inevitably, one or two become separated from their troop and slowly start starving, get covered in ticks and fleas and sometimes succumb to the elements,” explained Crow communications officer, Alex Kogl.

Thankfully there are kind Samaritans in the world to scoop up the little beings and bring them through to Crow.

“One little girl in particular, was found on the side of a road next to a beach. She was quite skinny already and covered in ticks, but is eating up a storm and will be integrated into the existing baby troop at the centre soon,” said Alex.
