Police arrest Merebank liquor dealer

The man appeared before the Wentworth Magistrates Court and is currently in custody.

AN operation carried out by eThekwini District Rapid Response officers in Wentworth resulted in the arrest of was a liquor dealer on Friday, 22 January at 8:30pm. 

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the police received information about a suspect who was dealing in liquor during the operation. 

“The team proceeded to Merebank where they confiscated a large quantity of liquor, crates of beers, ciders as well as cash gained from the sale of liquor. A 55-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. He was charged with dealing in liquor. The estimated value of the seized liquor is R6 000,” she said.

The man appeared before the Wentworth Magistrates Court on Monday, 25 January where he was granted a bail of R2 000. The matter was adjourned to Thursday, 28 January. 

The provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the arrest of the suspect. “These operations are still ongoing in our province,” he said.
