Man robbed at gunpoint outside bank

The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

A MAN was robbed at gunpoint at a mall on the Bluff outside a bank on Wednesday, 20 January at about 9.30am.

According to the Brighton Beach police, the man was in a queue outside awaiting his turn to make a cash deposit.

“While awaiting his turn to enter, an unknown man walked directly to the victim, pointing a firearm at him. The man snatched the bag from victim. The bag contained an undisclosed amount of cash.”

“The perpetrator then with haste made his way towards a stationary vehicle which was parked off near the scene and then sped off,” said communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux.

Brighton Beach detectives are investigating a case of armed robbery. Captain Le Roux added that knocker incidents remain prevalent within the policing area.

“Those who wish to make large cash deposits or withdrawals are urged to create a support structure for themselves when making withdrawals or deposits. Also, business owners are urged to change their routines of making deposits or withdrawals by changing the day, time and route taken when visiting financial institutes,” she said.
