eThekwini Municipality; heavy rains likely to hit parts of KZN

EThekwini appeals to the public not to be alarmed but to be vigilant as the city is prone to jaw-dropping calamities during the summer season.

ETHEKWINI Municipality warns the public of heavy downpours likely to hit certain parts of KZN this weekend as a result of tropical storm Eloise from Madagascar.

The city is closely monitoring the movement of the aforesaid storm, feared by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) to trigger heavy rainfall, that may result to localised flooding that may displace certain communities in low lying areas.

“In as much as SAWS point out that there is a high probability of northern parts of the province receiving heavy rains, the city is not taking any chances. As a result, it has put its disaster management teams on high alert to be able to respond with speed when the need arises,” reads a statement from eThekwini Municipality.

According to the SAWS, Eloise is currently situated over the northern parts of Madagascar, and is expected to move south-westwards and enter the Mozambique Channel on Thursday (21 January).

EThekwini appeals to the public not to be alarmed but to be vigilant as the city is prone to jaw-dropping calamities during the summer season.

More updates shall be communicated to the public on the progress of this tropical storm, permanently tracked by SAWS.
