YWP Sports Club eager to open its doors again

Yellowwood Park Sports Club's chairperson, Nadene Lotz shared that towards the end of 2020, sporting sections were able to return for a few months under strict protocol.

THE global outbreak of Covid-19 saw the closure and pause of various industries across the spectrum last year, and continues to rear its ugly head well into the new year.  In the world of sports; matches and competitions were cancelled or postponed, disrupting governing bodies, organisers, teams and athletes from national sporting fraternities right down to local community sports clubs.

Yellowwood Park Sports Club’s chairperson, Nadene Lotz shared that towards the end of 2020, sporting sections were able to return for a few months under strict protocol.

“Each section had to cancel events which supported the club. Football could not have spectators on the field or at any of their matches. Runners had their annual run but on a much smaller group.Golfers cancelled their annual Christmas Day and had no prize giving ceremony. All these sporting events brought people to the club and lockdown has turned them away. The club also depends on bar sales to keep it’s doors open but with the ban on alcohol sales this also brought an added strain.

“In December the club finally started seeing a little relief from the many months that we were closed, we were finally getting our club back into shape and bang we are closed again following the recent announcement to move back to adjusted level three of lockdown. Will we survive? Will any club, bar or entertainment company survive? The answer is I don’t know” said a despaired Nadene.

When asked about the club’s plans for 2021, she said that the they can only take each week as it comes while hoping and praying for the health of the country. She pleads with the greater public to stay at home during this trying time in order to return to normalcy.

“To each and everyone out there, please be safe and look after yourselves. When our doors do open again, I beg you to come and have a drink, grab something to eat and support our club.”
