Family honours late mom with jungle gym donation

The all-girl school based in Clairwood was selected as a way to inspire the girls to be powerhouses, much like the family's matriarch was.

IN THEIR mother’s honour and memory, the Lucy Naidoo family donated a jungle gym to the learners at Durban South Primary School. The family commemorated the 20th anniversary of her passing.

The all-girl school based in Clairwood was selected as a way to inspire the girls to be powerhouses, much like the family’s matriarch was.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Naidoo’s daughter, Sagree Padayachee, said the day was an emotional one for them. She added that the location of the donation was fitting as her family had close ties with the area of Clairwood.

“Our mum was really a gem and those who knew her can understand the emotions. It has been 20 years since her passing but we feel pain and emptiness every day. I thank my entire family for making this initiative possible.

“We chose Durban South Primary School because it is an all-girl school and we wanted to empower them to be strong, beautiful women like my mother was. This donation is our way of leaving a part of her here in Clairwood,” she said, wishing the children many hours of fun.

The foundation phase head of department, Sharm Simmadari, extended a big thank you to the family.

“You will not know how much in dire need we were for a new jungle gym. According to our plan for the new year, we intended on upgrading our old jungle gym area but you came as good Samaritans to sponsor us.

“As you know, the emphasis is on physical development and our Grade R teachers, whose learners will benefit the most, are extremely grateful. On behalf of the principal, school governing body, teachers and learners, we thank you for making this possible,” she said.
