A CASE of business robbery is being investigated by Montclair police after security guards were held at gunpoint on Seaward Road in Clairwood. According to the police, on Wednesday, 2 December at about 1.30am, on-duty security guards noticed two unknown men approaching the business premises.

“They pointed firearms at them and thereafter tied them with shoelaces. The security guards were then assaulted by the assailants. One of the security personnel was assaulted with an iron bar while attempting to resist. The suspects managed to remove truck tyres, batteries, a welding machine, grinder, cell phones and cash while placing the security personnel under duress. After removing the properties from the supervision of the security personnel they fled the scene in a white Isuzu Bakkie. One of the victims was taken to hospital as the result of his injuries,” said Montclair SAPS communications officer, Derek Vijiam.

A TAKEAWAY staff member was held at gunpoint by two unknown men on Wednesday, 2 December at about 8pm inside the business premises on Bangy Road, Montclair.

“The premises was opened for business and two unknown men entered and placed an order for their meals. The victim was preparing the order when both clients-turned-suspects took out their firearms and pointed it at those inside the takeaway. They demanded and removed cell phones, a laptop, vehicle keys and a speed point. Thereafter the suspects fled the scene in a maroon Mazda,” said Captain Vijiam.

A CASE of attempted carjacking was registered at Montclair SAPS after a man was held at gunpoint at his home on Tern Way in Woodhaven.

“On Saturday, 5 December at about 11.20pm, the victim was at his driveway gate when he was approached by two unknown males, who pointed a firearm at him. They demanded his wallet, cell phone and vehicle keys. The victim was in the company of his wife, unbeknown to the suspects. As a result of the threat posed by the suspects, the wife began to shout out for help. The suspects made their immediate getaway in a white Toyota Etios without taking anything,” said Captain Vijiam.

An on-duty delivery man was stopped at Panda Motors, Engen Service Station on Roland Chapman Drive in Montclair on Thursday, 3 December at about 12.15pm.

“The victim was busy making deliveries when he was stopped by the suspects to obtain more goods from the DSV container. The victim was approached by two males, who pointed a firearm at him and robbed him of various cell phones. The suspects fled in a maroon Datsun Go,” said Captain Vijiam.

A case of carjacking was opened after the alleged victim used his vehicle, a maroon Datsun Go, as an e-hailing service.

“He transported two clients on Thursday, 3 December at 11.30am to Montclair where they pulled out their firearms and hijacked him. The suspects drove the vehicle together with the victim to Lotus Park in Isipingo, where they dropped him off. He walked to SAPS Isipingo and reported that he was hijacked,” said Captain Vijiam. The Trio Task team comprising Captain Rico Naidoo, W/O Craig Inggs, Sgt Bhekumuzi Dlamini, Sgt Sifiso Shezi, Sgt Msizi Msomi, Const Andile Ngcobo together with CI Members and Brighton Beach CIG interviewed the complainant involved in both the above cases.

“After several hours of intensive investigation, the complainant was charged for defeating the ends of justice, as he reported a false case. A further two suspects were arrested and linked to an armed robbery in Montclair. The suspects will be charged and the investigation will continue. Clock radios, cell phones, the Datsun Go and other goods were recovered,” said Captain Vijiam.
