It took him six months to compile the album which originally had 15 songs before he decided to cut it down to 12.

“My inspiration for the new music is basically celebrating life and the journey of being an independent artist. I’ve found it so difficult at times that I wanted to give up. But I always think of my younger self. How that 15 year old teen from the streets of Cycas Road, Wentworth dreamt of being in this position that I’m currently in musically. No Favours is about my celebration phase and acknowledging that there is beauty in the struggle. Understanding that nothing is given, everything is earned.”

Comet Harban was also nominated for the Durban City Awards in the category of 031 Hip Hop Artist of the year in which he came second for his album All I can Say, which was released last year.

Reflecting on the difference between his previous and latest album, Comet said: “All I can say was written and recorded in a space of optimism, excitement to just be doing what I love which is music. I took a detour and went in a different direction with No Favours and with that I think this new album is my best work to date. It was born out of frustration, rejection after rejection. Certain songs express of the difficulties of entering the music industry as an independent artist. But as an artist I now appreciate that I was able to capture this period on tape.”

This year he was also nominated for the Durban City Awards in the category of 031 Hip Hop Artist of the year in which he came second for his album All I can Say, which was released last year.

“My late father was a modest man, he didn’t wish for me to be a doctor or a lawyer like most parents do, all he wanted was for me to stand on my own two feet and ask for ‘no favours’. So here it is. I hope you proud of me, dad,” shared a heartfelt Comet.
