Wentworth NPO helps feed the future generation

The soup kitchen, which falls under the eThekwini South Based Youth in Business NPO, helps provide meals for underprivileged children in the community.

WITH the hope and determination to end hunger in Wentworth’s growing generation, a group of women have gathered their pots to prepare meals as often as they can.

The soup kitchen, which falls under the eThekwini South Based Youth in Business NPO, helps provide meals for underprivileged children in the community.

“We feed the children every Thursday as there is a high rate of poverty and suffering in our community. Our children aren’t always guaranteed a meal to eat. Through this initiative they have come to look forward to the hearty plate that we provided. We also provide porridge or bread on most mornings when we can afford to. This way we ensure that they can go to school having had a good breakfast. This is our way of ensuring they have something to get by,” said one of the founders Celeste King who appeals to the greater public for sponsors towards this initiative so that the soup kitchen can continue to grow and feed more hungry stomachs daily.

“Sometimes we run out of gas to cook the meals as well as take-away containers. There is also a great need for a shelter for us to cook in on rainy days, as we’re often forced to cancel feedings when the weather is bad. We don’t want to be praised for the work that we do because we do it out of the love for our community. The glory we get from God is enough. We just ask that people open their hearts towards feeding our young generation in need. At the end of the day we just want to have the assurance that our children go to bed with full stomachs. We send our heartfelt thanks to Promac who are our biggest sponsors. They bring us the food and ingredients we need faithfully every Wednesday. They have been a great help towards our initiative and helping our community,” said co-founder Roslyn King.

The organisation also helps local youth with life skills and career guidance programmes as well as securing jobs, learnerships and apprenticeships. To sponsor towards the NPO contact Celeste King on 073-573-9017.
