Montclair crime in brief

Crime reported between Wednesday, 14 October to Friday, 16 October.

A CASE of business robbery is being investigated by the Montclair police following an incident at a local factory on Wednesday, 14 October at about 6.30am.

“The complainant arrived at the factory and was followed into the building by four men. One of the suspects held a firearm to his back and demanded cash. He withdrew R40 000 to pay his workers the day before. The balance of R23 000 was kept in the drawer. The suspects took the cash, loaded some clothing into the complainant’s Nissan NV200 bakkie and fled towards Solomon Mahlangu Drive,” said Captain Julianna Govender of Montclair police.

She added that the victim was assaulted with a shocking device before the four men fled the scene in a white VW Polo hatchback. If you have information to assist the detective with the investigation, call Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini on 079-500-0836.

POLICE are hunting down armed robbers who held a group of road workers at gunpoint and took their equipment on Friday, 16 October at about 3.40pm.
 
“The victim alleged that while they were working on the road, a white Hyundai H100 drove passed them, and then reversed. The passenger jumped out of the vehicle and produced a firearm. He ordered a worker to load the machine they were using on to the back of the vehicle. The worker refused. The suspects then loaded the machine on to vehicle and drove off,” said Capt Govender.
 
THE firearm amnesty period which commenced on Saturday, 1 August continues until Sunday, 31 January. Members of the public are urged to hand in firearms and ammunition for destruction.
 
This period can also be used to renew competency and firearm licences.
