Support YMA and adopt a pup

YMA warriors intervened when they heard of a pregnant whippet cross greyhound that had been living in devastating conditions at the hands of its owner.

YELLOWWOOD Park and Montclair Park Animals (YMA) recently made a heart-wrenching rescue which ended on a heart-warming, fluffy note.

YMA warriors intervened when they heard of a pregnant whippet cross greyhound that had been living in devastating conditions at the hands of its owner.

“The mother had been chained continuously even when she gave birth. One of the warriors went there in an effort to assess and address the situation. We went back there with surrender forms to the owners to help give the poor dog a better home and life. The mother was 6kgs, had worms and an infection on her tits. We immediately took her to the vet where she was put on treatment, given multi-vitamins and was de-wormed.

“She has now put on 4.5kgs and she is striving. She is just a year old and has already had two litters. For the first time in her life, she is a happy puppy. We have called her Ashanti because she is our African queen. Each of her five pups have recovered remarkably after being infected with ticks and worms. Today they look amazing, you could never say they are the same set of puppies,” said YMA director, Priya Naidoo.

The YMA team built an enclosure for the puppies and have ensured that they are well taken care of and have all their meals. “YMA is committed to paying the foster fees, the vet bills and feeding all the rescued animals in our care,” added Priya.

YMA is a registered non-profit company (NPC) dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of abused and abandoned animals in the Yellowwood Park, Woodhaven, Woodlands and Montclair communities.

They appeal to the greater public to adopt the fluffy, healthy, happy, 12-week-old puppies from Ashanti’s litter. The adoption process requires filling out a form, a home visit to assess dog-friendly living conditions as well as a fee of R500 which helps with YMA’s vet bill.

As part of their fundraising initiatives, YMA also holds a craft market every Saturday from 9am to 2pm, opposite 29 Curlew Crescent, Yellowwood Park (Between Yellowwood Park Spar and Yellowwood Park Sports Club). There is also a donation table where community members can drop off animal food and second-hand goods which the organisation can use or re-sell to help with their running costs.
