Woodlands WI hosts prize-giving ceremony

Barbara Endres gave an informative talk and display about the programme Learn to Earn where she teaches men and women to sew.

WOODLANDS Women’s Institute’s (WWI) hosted its prize-giving ceremony on Friday, 4 September. 

The president of the group, Valerie Wagner, welcomed all present including the executive president of the Southern Hills, Sharon Quail, who handed over her duties to Bev Nathras, the new executive president.

Barbara Endres gave an informative talk and display about the programme Learn to Earn where she teaches men and women to sew.

After tea, Bev with the help of the vice president of WWI, Barbara Kruger, handed out the trophies.

The awarding of prizes for competition work was held as members eagerly waited to see who would walk away with the trophies in each of the 11 categories together with small prizes for second and third places. Well done to the winners and everyone who enters the monthly competitions.

Trophies and prizes were awarded as follows:

Ad Ed – Debra Van Der Merwe Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Valerie Wagner and third, Sandra Naidoo.

Agri-Horti – G. Klar Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Barbara Endres and third, Beverley Mulligan.

Craft – Gladys Dellius Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Barbara Endres and third, Mo Hope Bailie.

Handicraft – Inky Ryan Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Sandra Naidoo and third, Barbara Endres.

Floral – Shirley Heaven Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger and second, Sheila Mathieson.

Home Products – Nel Gilchrist Trophy: First, Linda Gibbs and second, Barbara Kruger.

Embroidery: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Sandra Naidoo and third, Rose Boyce.

Best Rose – B.E. Coetzee Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger and second, Sandra Naidoo.

Best Specimen – B.E. Coetzee Trophy: First, Barbara Endres, second, Linda Gibbs and third, Valerie Wagner.

Best Orchid – Rose Bowl: First, Barbara Endres, second, Linda Gibbs and third, Sheila Mathieson.

Merit – Work of the month: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Valerie Wagner and third, Barbara Endres.

Most Points – Barbara Potgieter Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Barbara Endres and third, Linda Gibbs.

Most Entries – Hazel Message Trophy: First, Barbara Kruger, second, Barbara Endres and third, Linda Gibbs.

Woman of the year: Barbara Kruger.

Lamp of learning – Most points November 2019: Barbara Kruger.

President’s Prize – over 90% and less than 100%: Rose Boyce.

Most Improved member for competition work: Barbara Endres. The meeting closed with the saying of the WI prayer.
