Get your running shoes laced for SPCA Virtual Trail Run

Whether you're a serious runner or just looking for a fun morning out with the family, get your shoes laced and hit the road or trails in support of the orphans in SPCA’s care from Monday, 7 September until Sunday, 20 September.

THE annual SPCA Trail Run is back but the 2020 edition is going to go a little differently.

“Instead of joining us at our premises and running the scenic route alongside the Umgeni River – we are asking that you participate in your own ‘hood’. It’s our first ever virtual run,” said Durban and Coast SPCA Marketing Manager, Tanya Fleischer.

SPCA mascot Dougal, with SPCA runners Storm Fallet, Joe Cawley, Marketing Manager Tanya Fleischer and runner Daniel Wiebesiek.

Whether you’re a serious runner or just looking for a fun morning out with the family, get your shoes laced and hit the road or trails in support of the orphans in SPCA’s care from Monday, 7 September until Sunday, 20 September.

Run, jog or walk along your chosen route on your day of preference. You can choose to run on whichever day suits you best. With three distances to choose from; an easy 5km, to a more challenging 10km and 15km options, there’s something for everyone at each level of fitness. Entry fees are R100 per person (5km), R150 per person (10km) or R200 per person (15km). All proceeds go towards the cost of providing care and shelter for lost, abandoned and abused animals at the SPCA.

Each entry will receive a coffee and muffin voucher to use at Coffee Cats Cafe. (Vouchers to be emailed once entries have closed on 6 September). Pre-race registration is open until 6 September 2020. No late entries will be accepted.

“Feel free to run with your dogs this year – we’re confident they will ‘lap’ the opportunity up. All rules and regulations of Covid-19 must be strictly adhered to. Humans must wear a mask when doing their run or walk. We have some amazing prizes up for grabs. Think Oyster Box vouchers, Funky Pants, a pet photo shoot by Carole Hibbert and fantastic pamper hampers and pet product hampers. Entrants will only be eligible for lucky draw prizes and race certificates if they do their run between 7 – 20 September and send in their proof of running time and distance to events@wardevents.co.za by 9pm on 20 September,” said Fleischer.

Enter and pay online at wardevents.co.za by Sunday 6 September. For more information, please call Tanya on 031 579 6546 or email tanya@spcadbn.org.za
