Police provide GBV platform for education

Pamphlets titled Enough is Enough which were bundled into safety information packs were distributed.

FOOT patrols were the perfect platform for the Brighton Beach police to provide locals at the Bluff Towers Mall with a better understanding of the various forms of gender-based violence (GBV) that exists.

Corporate communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux, researched and distributed pamphlets titled Enough is Enough which were bundled into safety information packs.

The packs consisted of four educational information brochures focusing namely on child protection, senior citizens’ protection, rape awareness and domestic violence.

“The rape information guide explains the various forms of rape and clarifies rape myths. The senior citizens information guide explains the older persons act, categories of abuse older persons are exposed to and safety for the aged in public spaces.”

“The child safety information guide explains what child abuse is, the types of child abuse and possible indicators of child abuse. The domestic violence information guide explains what a domestic relationship is, forms of domestic violence and how to obtain a protection order,” she said.

She added that they were able to, through this public awareness campaign, achieve a strategic objective as an organisation which was to empower vulnerable groups in society through availing literature on their rights and what action to take when their rights are imposed upon.

She expressed her gratitude toward the management of the Bluff Towers Mall and tenants for affording them a platform to create awareness on GBV issues during Women’s Month.
