Crime briefs: Montclair police search for wanted suspects after house robberies and carjackings

After working many hours tirelessly, SAPS Montclair Trio Crime Detectives successfully secured an arrest for house robbery.

House robbery

A WOMAN was awaken by noises emanating from her lounge to find three unknown men inside her house on Montclair Road in Montclair on Sunday, 2 August at about 3am.

“She pressed the alarm, however, it did not activate. One man had a firearm in his hand. She immediately returned to her bedroom and locked the door.  A few minutes later the suspects instructed her to open the door which she did.  They removed all electronic equipment namely cellphones and laptops and left,” said Captain Derek Vijiam of the Montclair police.

The men returned to the same place a few minutes later and began to search the house again. They took a wrist watch and shoes and fled the scene in a white VW Polo.

“The Montclair Trio Crimes detectives are working around the clock on clues to arrest the perpetrators.”

Carjacking

AN E-HAILING service driver was held at gunpoint and tortured before being dropped off at high speed in Umlazi on Saturday, 8 August at about 9am.

“The driver of a VW Polo received a request to transport two men from Durban central to Jagger Road, Montclair. On arrival, one of the men produced a firearm and pointed it at the driver. They both mercilessly demanded the keys of the vehicle and bundled the driver into the rear seat,” said Captain Vijiam.

While one of the men drove at high speed to Umlazi, the other kept an eye over the driver. His cellphone, wallet and cash were removed from him.

“He was later dropped off in Umlazi where he was found by locals who brought him to Montclair SAPS.”

Attempted carjacking 

AN E-HAILING service driver narrowly escaped a gun shot wound after being held at gunpoint for his car on Saturday, 8 August at about 6.30pm.

“The driver of a white Hyundai received a request to transport a woman from Park Road in Durban central to Jagger Road in Montclair. On arrival, he was accosted by two men in a white Toyota Etios with a firearm which was pointed at him, demanding his keys. They physically pushed him into the vehicle, however, the driver fought back by pushing one of the assailants out from the driver’s side,” said Captain Vijiam.

The driver was able to grab hold of the firearm and a struggle ensued resulting in a round going off. The driver sustained injuries to his fingers.  The suspects made their getaway in the Toyota Etios.

Malicious damage to property   

A TRUCKER was parked on Leicester Road, Mobeni on Sunday, 9 August at about 7.25pm when he was approached by two men from either side of the truck who broke the windows and became verbally abusive.

“They swore at him several times in isiZulu and threw petrol at the driver. Fearing for his life, he immediately ran into a company premises and alerted security who went to the truck in a haste and found it to be on fire. They extinguished the fire while the suspects made their escape on foot towards Grimsby Road. Truck was extensively damaged,” said Captain Vijiam.

House robbery

A WOMAN who was asleep with her baby in an out building in a property on Anleno Road, Montclair was held at gunpoint for cash and electronics on Tuesday, 11 August at about 2.30am.

“She was awoken by voices and a conversation outside her front door. She screamed for help and in the ensuing process, two unknown men entered her property, by gaining entry through a bent burglar guard and a broken door. The assailants threatened the victim verbally while one of them pointed a firearm at her and demanded cash and electronic equipment,” said Captain Vijiam.

The men made their getaway in a white VW Polo.  Montclair SAPS Trio Crime detectives are working on leads which will result in an imminent arrest, added Cpt Vijiam.

Montclair SAPS Trio Crime detectives successfully secured an arrest for house robbery on Tuesday, 11 August at about 2.30pm.

“After working for many hours tirelessly, Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini, Sergeant Msizi Msomi and Constable Andile Ngcobo under the leadership of Sergeant Sifiso Shezi arrested a man, Fanelesibonge Senzulumusa Gumede, for house robbery which occurred on 2 August on Montclair Road, Montclair. The detectives are working around the clock and more arrests are imminent,” said Captain Vijiam.
