#MandelaMonth: Hollywoodbets donates much-needed items to TAFTA

A generous donation of fabric face masks, face shields, sanitisers, refillable sanitiser bottles and medical gloves to help safeguard these vulnerable members of society was made to the home by the team.

AN EAGER Hollywoodbets team excitedly honoured Mandela Day by offering their support to vulnerable members of the community for 67 minutes.

The head office team, known as Team Support, elected to support The Association for the Aged (Tafta) with personal protective equipment (PPE) which they desperately needed to help protect their elderly beneficiaries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A generous donation of 107 fabric face masks, 107 face shields, sanitisers, refillable sanitiser bottles and medical gloves to help safeguard these vulnerable members of society was made to the home by the team.

Corporate social investment coordinator for the sports betting company, Nonhlanhla Vezi, explained why this was an important donation for the company to make at this time.

“For the past 10 years, we have been supporting Tafta. The current pandemic we are faced with, has had a massive effect on the elderly and their safety. This is why we chose to donate essential PPE equipment to them as the official recipient of our 2020 Mandela Day activities. We understand the importance of ensuring that the needs of the elderly are always looked after, and even more so, during this time. We are grateful for the wonderful work that Tafta does across many communities in Durban,” she said.

Fundraiser at the home for the elderly, Nirupa Kasserchun, said their main focus is ensuring the safety and well-being of their vulnerable residents.

“We have received ongoing support from Hollywoodbets and were excited to find out that we were their chosen recipients for their Mandela Day activities. These essential PPE items will be put to great use across our homes and will ultimately contribute towards our Covid-19 prevention strategy and response which will help us ensure that the elderly are well looked after.”

“These items will be used in our John Dunn House and John Conradie. Unfortunately, we have had positive cases of Covid-19 in these homes and we believe this donation will help immensely in preventing the spread among our patients,” she said.

Tafta is a non-profit organisation that serves the needs of elderly residents within Durban. They currently own 14 buildings where they provide accommodation, frail care, daily meals, home-based care as well as entertainment and social activities to the elders.

Their services are all either free of charge or come at a nominal cost. They, therefore, rely heavily on the support of the public and businesses, like Hollywoodbets.
