Two injured in Wentworth drive-by shooting

The victims drove themselves to Wentworth Hospital for medical assistance.

WENTWORTH police are investigating two counts of attempted murder, after suspects opened fire in a drive-by shooting leaving two victims seriously injured on Thursday night, 30 July.

“Two male victims were driving in a silver grey VW Polo along Lansdowne Road in Jacobs, when a VW Golf 5, with an unknown registration number, followed them from behind and flashed their lights. The Golf 5 then suddenly drove parallel to them. Shots were fired from the suspects’ vehicle to the victims’ vehicle at random. Serious bodily injuries were sustained by both the driver and passenger. The suspects then drove off. The victims, a driver aged 31 and a passenger aged 21 managed to drive themselves to Wentworth Hospital for medical assistance,” said Wentworth police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

The victims’ vehicle was left riddled with bullets after suspects opened fire in a drive-by shooting on Thursday night, 30 July.

Both victims were later transferred to another hospital in Durban, due to the seriousness of their injuries.

Wentworth police detectives and Vispol officers attended the scene and empty cartridges were seized by officers.

According to Gumede, the motive for this shooting is unknown at this stage and it is subject to police investigation.

Police are appealing to the community and any witnesses to report helpful information on this incident to the Crime Stop line 086-001-0111 or Wentworth SAPS on 031-451-6240/6241/6242.
