Wentworth police help those in need

The Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre and other stakeholders intervened in offering some support to a needy family in Umlazi recently.

IN keeping with the theme of Mandela Month and the spirit of giving, Wentworth SAPS have been lending a helping hand wherever it is needed.

The Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre and other stakeholders intervened in offering some support to a needy family in Umlazi.

“The family house had caught on fire resulting in the death of a child and the loss of family’s belongings which had engulfed the building. The female clerk from Wentworth SAPS Court, Smangele Duma, who lives in Umlazi had informed the station about the incident and she reached out to Reservist Constable Hassan Khan and Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre coordinator, Jenny Gomes,” said Wentworth police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.
The team handed over blankets, groceries, goodies and other essential items to the family, to help them during this difficult time.

Reservist Khan, Gomes, Duma and other staff were commended for lending a hand and assisting the family in need. Reservist Khan said more efforts are being made again to gather building material to put the structure back into its original condition with the help from donors they have approached.

Wentworth police also embarked on a Mandela Day initiative recently at the Merewent Cheshire Home. In commemoration of 67 minutes for Mandela, police and a team of community leaders donated PPE kits and provided a hearty lunch to the staff and members of the home.

Thanks go to Wentworth CPF chairman Pastor Donny Anderson, Jonny Singh of Colchester Rovers FC, Neil Chinniah of Chinatown Car Wash, the Merebank Rotary Club , Raven of Merebank Food for Life and Noel Naidoo from Johnny’s Shop. These role players collectively donated towards the donated items. Merewent Cheshire Home were very pleased with the donation and thanked the organisers.
