#MandelaDay: Wentworth Angels and sponsors host memorable celebration

The tireless efforts of the Wentworth Angels and its sponsors ensured that there was plenty to eat and enjoy on the day.

AUSTERVILLE Park in Wentworth was abuzz with activity on Saturday, 18 July as the Wentworth Angels celebrated Mandela Day with the community.

Residents were treated to delicious chicken biryani, dhal and salad, from Paul Pillay of Food for Life. Also on the menu were vegetable biryani and soji, and from the chef school at Eco Park, vegetable soup.

“We decided to host the event at the same park where the initiative of the clean-up campaign started. We thank all our sponsors for assisting in making this event a huge success. Making a difference and seeing the faith restored in our people was a blessing enough for me,” said Tracey Williams.

Fats Muller said, “This was my first big event with the organisation and I have never met a woman like Tracey. Her dedication, energy and commitment to the community astounds me. She gives from her kitchen to assist in sustaining other kitchens, people come to her door for food and they are never turned away.”

“I’ve been working with Tracey for six years and her dedication and vibe is uplifting. Seeing someone so dedicated keeps us motivated to continue,” said Candice George.

The feeding scheme runs seven days a week and the team encourages sponsors to continue assisting to sustain the kitchens.

Tracey said their next major project started this week and they are in need of bright coloured paint, paintbrushes and ropes.

“We are claiming back our community and uplifting it through the assistance of unemployed parents who have come on board with us. We need to make a positive impact daily not just on occasions. Thank you to Brett Thompson who marshalled the Burgess Road Park with the dedication of his time and all those who worked on the project with him,” she added.
