Crime on the rise in Montclair, police say in latest crime briefs

These crimes were filed by the police between Thursday, 14 May to Wednesday, 20 May.

TWO SEPARATE cases of burglary have been filed with the Montclair police following theft at two different business premises on Leicester Road in Mobeni on Thursday, 14 May.

Captain Derek Vijiam said a woman discovered that a few items were removed from the building when she arrived at her workplace in the morning.

“She secured the premises on Thursday at about 4.45pm, and the next day at about 6am, the complainant returned to the work premise. On entering the business site she noticed something was amiss. On further observation, a bag of fertiliser, that was on the floor, was out of place. On further investigation it was detected a window was removed where entry was gained. The suspects appeared to have removed a large quantity of bags,” he said.

According to the captain, the second victim alleged to have also secured his business premises by 4.30pm. “On Friday, 22 May. At about 7.50am, he arrived and entered the building. While inside, he noticed that the roof had been cut open and thirty boxes of petroleum jelly were stolen,” he said.

 

Theft from Motor vehicle
Montclair SAPS are investing a case of theft from motor vehicle following the removal of tyres from a truck on Wednesday, 13 May, between 10.45am and 1pm on South Coast Road in Clairwood.

“The trailer was parked with everything in order. On arrival, the driver noticed that two of the tyres were removed. On further investigation, he was informed by another driver that he noticed two unknown males in an unmarked van, no registration number, equipped with a machine, to remove tyres from the trailer. He saw them remove the tyres and place them in their bakkie and drove off in an unknown direction,” said Vijiam.

 

Housebreaking and theft
A man who lives Forestdene Road in Montclair secured his house and left on Friday, 15 May, at about 6am.

“At about 5.30pm on Sunday, 17 May, on his arrival, he noticed that a room window was broken. On further investigation he noticed that various electronic items such as cell phones and a television set were removed.

 

Business Burglary
A business situated on Kenyon Howard Road, Montclair was securely locked on Tuesday, 19 May at 4.30pm.

“The next day at 8am, the complainant arrived at her business premises where she discovered that her door was forcibly opened. On further investigation she found that electronic equipment was taken,” said Vijiam.

 

Assault: Grievous Bodily Assault
A man walking alone on Stanbridge Crescent in Woodlands on Thursday, 14 May, at about 4pm, sustained open wounds from a stabbing by a man known to him.

“The suspect who is known to him appeared suddenly and confronted him by striking him with a bush knife on his arm. He immediately ran away as a form of defence,” said Vijiam.

 

Theft from motor vehicle
On Tuesday, 19 May, at 10.30pm, a driver parked his car at a premises on Francis Place, Woodlands.

“The vehicle was locked with its accessories intact. The following morning at 4.30am the driver proceeded to check his vehicle and found out all the tyres and rims were removed,” said Vijiam.

 

Theft from motor vehicle
A man parked outside Swinton Road, SJ Smith Hostel, Mobeni, in a company car to buy food on Wednesday, 20 May at 6.30am.

“He alighted the vehicle and proceeded to purchase food from the shop nearby. On his return, he got into his vehicle and attempted to start it, but it would not start. On investigation to what the problem might be, it was discovered that the computer box was forcibly removed, ” said Vijiam.
