Care 4 Life resumes with feeding programme

Care 4 Life is now up and running again thanks to the eased restrictions of level four lockdown.

IT is a widely known fact that many have fallen on hard times following the Covid-19 lockdown. Many NPOs and faith-based organisations have been working tirelessly to help those in need. Care 4 Life, is one such organisation which is now up and running again thanks to the eased restrictions of level four of the lockdown.

Born from a church ministry, Care 4 Life is a group of committed and compassionate men and women who feed and care for the community of Wentworth.
“I remember sending a message to all the members of Care 4 Life explaining our predicament and enquiring as to what we could do when the lockdown first came into effect. Most wanted to continue preparing the hot meals for our less fortunate families in the community but understood that because the church was closed, where we prepare meals, we had to abide by the regulations.

“However, we decided that we would assist needy families who we had identified with food parcels. Some volunteers agreed to adopt a family, while others still donated food stuff to the groups that were actively feeding the poor in the community. However, the lack of being actively involved in preparing hot meals over the weekend was getting to us,” said member and coordinator of Care 4 Life, Hugo Hayes.

Their frustrations didn’t last too long, as from 2 May, the team was able to continue their feeding project at the Cyril Carey Centre. “It is great to be back. On the first day back, a team of three prepared the chicken breyani, two others packed the food into polystyrene containers and transported it to the distribution points to many hungry people. That marvelous feeling of togetherness was back. We were all happy again knowing that the humanity in our community has been so inspiring. Groups of people have come together to assist the less fortunate. It’s only right to give a great big shout out of thanks to those who have made a difference in providing the ingredients for the meals, those who have assisted financially, those who continue to give of their time and energy, those who have provided the transport and many many more. None of this can be sustained without your contributions. God bless you all,” said Hugo.
