Downpours cause havoc for Wentworth bowlers

Congratulations to Kevin Claassens, Wayne Booysens and Matthew and Kearan Lassak, who all won their round robin sections to qualify for the play offs on Sunday.

In a week beset with dogged inclement weather, Wentworth Bowling Club cancelled the Wednesday afternoon promotion and development bowls and the Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim pairs on Sunday morning, 23 February.

Friday’s Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls went ahead as scheduled and saw Godfrey Addinall, Ivor Aylward and Mike Hough build up a healthy plus 26 to take the day’s top spot.

In second place were Tom Cloete, Derek Stevens and Claude Newman. Steve Baker, Cleve Hein and Henry Welgemoed took home the week’s sportsmen’s prize. Dave Carroll chose the lucky number on the raffle sheet and was rewarded with a large roast gammon.

His luck continued when he won a second prize on the first 60/ 40 board, sharing with Norman Webster. The second board winners were Tania Nagel and Tomcat Cavanagh.
Competitors in the Port Natal singles championship had their work cut out for them on Saturday, 22 February, as they competed in soaring temperatures that required bowlers to be called off the green when conditions became too extreme.

Congratulations to Kevin Claassens, Wayne Booysens and Matthew and Kearan Lassak, who all won their round robin sections to qualify for the play offs on Sunday. Unfortunately, none of the men from WBC made it through the three knock out rounds to be eligible for the quarter-finals on Sunday, 1 March.
