Women’s soccer team claims golden victory

The Ningizimu Special School women's soccer team made their school and country proud when they came back with gold at the Special Olympics Pan African Games held in Cario, Egypt recently.

THE Ningizimu Special School women’s soccer team made their school and country proud when they came back with gold at the Special Olympics Pan African Games held in Cario, Egypt recently.

Sinenhlanhla Mthethwa, Sindy Mbolekwa, Asisipho Sosibo, Siphokazi Khumalo, Thobeka Msomi, Khethiwe Shozi
Andiswa Shozi and Zinhle Zibula make up the winning team that represented South Africa at the international tournament which ran from 23 to 31 January. They qualified for the games after successfully competing at the Special Olympics World Games that took place in Abu Dhabi last year.

“The tournament was catered for players with intellectual disabilities and they are proof that one can achieve anything with the right attitude and mindset. The team performed very well and the school is very proud of these young women,” said Ningizimu Special School soccer coach and sports coordinator Nana Mazibuko. The team now looks forward to training even harder, competing in more games locally and nationally and qualify for for the next Special Olympics World Games.
