Clairwood school receives new uniforms from KZN legislature

Principal, Silindile Msomi, said the visit from the provincial legislature was pleasantly overwhelming.

TWENTY-FIVE learners from Durban South Primary School were the recipients of new school gear courtesy of the KZN legislature. The visit on Tuesday, 4 February at the Clairwood based all-girl school was a series of interventions by the government to assess and lend assistance where it is needed most.

The beneficiaries selected were mostly from disadvantaged backgrounds. The much-needed uniforms will aid the learners to conform to the standards set for all learners at the school.

Honourable Deputy Speaker of the provincial legislature, Mluleki Ndobe, said their role was to observe the functionality and challenges that teachers and principals face and devise a solution tailored to various schools.

“We do this in January and again in June to monitor the progress in the challenges that we identify, for instance, a lot of schools that were producing poor matric results, are able to perform better because of these interventions. We’re very happy to have visited Durban South Primary School because we acknowledge that matric results are a culmination of the foundation, intermediate and senior phases. And as usual, the focus is on matric results and we forget to look at the performance at the founding phase of a learner’s schooling,” said Ndobe who added that he was impressed by the school’s cleanliness and enthusiasm of learners.

Principal, Silindile Msomi, said the visit from the provincial legislature was pleasantly overwhelming. “We really appreciate the help offered to our learners, especially those who come from disadvantaged communities. This brings a smile to them. We are very pleased and thankful for having a good relationship with the community. We believe that working together with the community to bring transformation will make our learners better citizens,” she said.
