Montclair crime in brief

Captain Derek Vijiam, spokesperson for Montclair SAPS provides the latest briefs of crime in the area.

Monday, 20 January
A MAN seated in his car parked outside his workplace South Coast Road, Clairwood at about 7.30pm was accosted by occupants of a silver VW Polo who parked behind him. Three men, one with a firearm, approached and pointed a firearm at him. The men demanded money and his cellphone. They searched him and who removed the car keys and left. The suspects later returned, while the victim was removing his battery in the presence of a security guard. The armed man pointed a gun at the victim who, together with a guard, ran away into their place of employment. The suspects made off with the car. The victims escaped without injury.

Friday, 17 January 
AN e-hailing service driver received a ride request from Umbilo to Montclair at about 12.30pm. Two men jumped into the car and on arrival to Blamey Road in Montclair, a passenger seated in the back grabbed hold of the driver by the neck, while the other passenger on the front seat unlocked the door. A third unknown man entered the car with his firearm. They physically forced the driver to sit in the rear seat and drove off to Umlazi. He was dropped off in E section and found his way to the police station. 

Wednesday, 22 January
A SECURITY guard on Seaward Road in Clairwood was in his guard room when he was confronted by a man who swore at him at about 11.55pm. This resulted in a fight. Thereafter a group of men arrived and tied him up. They questioned the guard about the whereabouts of the other security guards. The victim was forced to go into the company, where they instructed the drivers to exit the trucks and tied them up. The suspects demanded
cellphones and cash, while the other suspects removed tyres and tarpaulin from the trucks. One driver sustained minor injuries. The tyres were recovered in the bushy area not far from the company later the same night.

Thursday, 23 January
A SECURITY guard at a tiling company on South Coast Road, Mobeni, was inside the warehouse when he was approached by an unknown man who pointed a firearm at him at about 5.30am. A few more suspects arrived and assaulted the guard, removed his firearm, cellphone and a bulletproof vest. They questioned him on the whereabouts of the other security guards and who was inside the company. He told them that the night shift workers were inside. They forced him upstairs where they kicked the door of one of the offices open and removed computers.
They instructed the victim to run away from the company premises. They left immediately. Minor injuries were sustained by the victim.
