Police reach out to Bark Angel over the festive season

The special visit comes after the organisation's admission of 15 dogs that were left homeless after the murder of their guardian.

BRIGHTON Beach police recently initiated an outreach to support the local NPO, Bark Angel in their mission to provide refuge for rescued dogs. The special visit comes after the organisation’s admission of  15 dogs that were left homeless after their guardian, Bluff resident and dog lover Delores Ireland was found murdered at her place of residence in September last year.

Police members were requested to make contributions towards the outreach initiative by donating monies, food items and blankets, which they donated to Bark Angle and further spent the day to interact with the fur babies.

Constable Siphamandla Mngoma is greeted with a huge hug from a rescued dog.

“Upon our arrival we were met by many wagging tails and immediately felt welcome.  Embarking on a tour of the premises we were amazed to find that dogs were not caged in or tied up, but roaming the various sectors of the premises.  The members received as much attention from the dogs as the dogs from them upon interaction. The visit to Bark Angels was an eye opening experience for us all”, said Corporate Communications Officer Captain Louise Le Roux.

“I am so proud of our members who gave generously. We were able to collect R 1 090, two blanket and 64kg of food valued at  R1200 to donate to Bark Angels. The outreach initiative for Bark Angels allowed for SAPS to achieve the strategic objectives of the organisation which is to partner with organisations that care for vulnerable groups within communities,” said Le Roux.
