Business committee aims to put Bluff on the map

The ward committee has been working really hard this year on several portfolios and projects on the Bluff.

TWENTY-five new infrastructure projects worth R35m and increased new job opportunities – these make up just some of the impressive achievements that highlight the progress of the ward 66 small business development committee portfolio, within the field of construction for 2019.

Developing the construction industry was a prime focus for the committee this year after much research on the problem areas in the ward as well as the large influx of CV’s handed to the councillor’s office by local job seekers.

The fiber optic project, desalination plant and the youth centre are just some of the projects that have created new job opportunities for the members of the Bluff community while simultaneously empowering the greater community. The committee also held a number of workshops aimed at educating individuals in the small business sector on various topics such as finance and funding, construction compliance, the processes of licencing businesses and the sharing of sound business advice.

Charles Leaven, Small Business Development chairperson, is proud of the strides that his committee has made this year.

“The ward committee has been working really hard this year on several portfolios and projects. I’m really proud of how much we have managed to achieve this year because you can actually see the progress made in other people’s lives. People are able to have a means to a livelihood and their dignity is restored. I get stopped on the street almost every day by people thanking me for the difference that this committee portfolio has made,” said Charles Leaven, Small Business Development chairperson.

There are also many plans in the pipeline for the next year within infrastructure development, enhancing local tourism and bridging the gap between industry and residential Bluff in order to create more jobs while putting the Bluff on the map.
