Sharing the joy of giving

The beaming faces and big smiles were all thanks to the Santa Shoebox Project, which is one of South Africa's most loved children's charities.

THE little ones of Imvana Yomalusi Créche were in for a treat when Santa left each of them a special surprise under the tree on Thursday, 5 December.

The beaming faces and big smiles were all thanks to the Santa Shoebox Project, which is one of South Africa’s most loved children’s charities and has touched the lives of thousands of underprivileged children throughout the country.
“When a donor pledges a Santa Shoebox, they promise a child the gift of self-worth and fulfilled potential. These are so much more than just a shoe box, each donor fills a decorated shoe box with eight required items: a toothbrush and toothpaste, soap and a facecloth, school supplies, a toy, sweets and an outfit of clothing. I just absolutely love this project. Most of these children have never had anything new, to see their cute faces as they open their boxes is just so fulfilling,” said project coordinator for the Bluff, Diedre Denny, who has been a part of the project for five years after being involved by ‘mistake’ and never looked back.
