Councillor spreads Christmas cheer in Clairwood

DURING this exciting time of year, many begin to reflect on how blessed and fortunate they are and are reminded of the many underprivileged people. One such person is ward 32 PR councillor, Sharmaine Sewshanker who took some to spread Christmas cheer to the children of the Clairwood informal settlements on Tuesday, 3 December at the Khalid Shah Community Centre.

“The work I do is for the community and they have always supported me and participated in drives to develop Clairwood. Our children in the informal settlements are so deprived and many of them have never seen a Santa Clause and for a child a toy is so special. I just wanted to make 100 children happy and thank God I had the support of people who came on board to help when they heard about this initiative. The hall was also given to us for free to host the party. I’m so blessed and grateful for the support in making this a success and bringing joy to our little babies. I’m hoping next year we are able to double the number of children just as a way to make them happy. These are our future leaders and we need to appreciate them,” said a grateful Sharmaine.
