New Forest learner attacked at school

The incident happened on Thursday, 7 November but was reportedly kept mum.

A 13-year-old New Forest High School learner was savagely beaten at school. According to reports, the attacker, a fellow pupil at the school, waited for the Grade 8 learner at the restroom.

The boy was tripped and landed on the floor, giving his attacker leverage to get on top of him with cascades of punches. The incident was recorded on a cellphone by learners who witnessed the beating.

The incident happened on Thursday, 7 November but was reportedly kept mum as learners advised both the victim and attacker to allegedly shake on it and not tell. However, about a week later, the matter surfaced as the victim’s mother got a hold of the video and saw her son being attacked.

The Woodlands-based school’s governing body chairperson, Bongi Tamella, has reacted to the reports saying that the school and its governing body does not condone any form of bullying or physical violence. “Regarding the incident of 7 November, the events leading up to it and following this event, all the circumstances have been fully investigated,” said Tamella.

He added that a disciplinary tribunal, as per the school’s code of conduct and SA Schools Act has been set up.

“The school has interacted repeatedly with the families of the children involved.  At this point, we are waiting for the recommendations from the disciplinary tribunal,” he said.
