WEDNESDAY, 13 NOVEMBER: BirdLife Port Natal hosts an indoor meeting at Westville Methodist Church at 6.30pm. A talk and photographs on birding in the Kruger Park by Adam Cruickshank will be presented. Call Virginia Cameron on 074-580-3341 for further information.

THURSDAY, 14 NOVEMBER: Monthly meeting of Natalie Garden Club takes place at the Pigeon Club, Tara Road at 9.30am. The decorative competition is entitled a palm sheath with a Christmas theme and the cultural competition is three variegated leaves in a container. Two speakers, Karolina Kotze and Yusimi Zayas, will present a talk with specimens on orchids. Visitors are welcome at a fee of R15. Refreshments and snacks are served during the break. SATURDAY, 16 NOVEMBER: Durban and Coastal Branch of the Genealogical Society of SA hosts an event at the Family History Centre, Church of the Latter Day Saints, Montgomery Lane (off Silverton Road), Musgrave, Berea at 2pm. Guest speaker, Edrick Pascoe, master of the high court, Durban will speak about the workings of the offices of the master of the supreme court, Pietermaritzburg, and the master of the high court in Durban, and on the accessioning of documents from these offices. WEDNESDAY, 20 NOVEMBER: BirdLife Port Natal hosts a new activity, nature journaling for birders at the Palmiet Nature Reserve in Westville from 8.30am to 11am. Bring a note book and pen, a picnic and chairs for afterwards. Call Cati Vawda on 083-791-7676.

SUNDAY, 24 NOVEMBER: BirdLife Port Natal hosts an outing to Cumberland Nature Reserve near Pietermaritzburg at 6am. Magnificent cliff faces, rocky outcrops and acacia savannah. Peregrine falcon, broad-tailed warbler and many other birds can be seen. Bring a picnic and chairs. Call Jane Morris on 082-442-2982.

SATURDAY, 30 NOVEMBER: Christmas market at the Dutch Reformed Church Durban-East Bluff hall, 49 Old Mission Road from 8am to 1pm. Lots to eat and lovely Christmas gifts. For further information, contact the church office on 083-387-2553.

SATURDAY, 7 DECEMBER: Fynnland Baptist Church hosts a Christmas night market from 4pm till late. Come and enjoy a unique night market experience under the stars and support local crafters. There will be live entertainment, white elephant, jumble, kids entertainment, yummy food treats – arrive hungry, cup cake decorating competition, sand decorating, gift items and much more.
