Take a walk on the wild side with CROW

Compass Cares has supported Crow over the many years through the calendar initiative which has since become the rehabilitation centre’s main fundraising initiative.

THOSE who protect and save wildlife, lead the way in protecting and saving humanity and earth. This was a sentiment that resonated with many as the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) together with Compass Cares (the CSI arm of Compass Medical Waste Services) launched the much anticipated CROW 2020 ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ calendar, on Wednesday, 9 October.

Compass Cares has supported Crow over the many years through the calendar initiative which has since become the rehabilitation centre’s main fundraising initiative. Speaking at the launch, Compass Medical Waste Services marketing manager, Tenley Cummings said that Compass had experienced quite a challenging year and had to resort to streamlining some of their services, however, the team was committed to fulfilling their promise to support and assist wildlife.

“We approached our sponsors and suppliers and they all came on board to help CROW rescue and rehabilitate the injured wild animals that cannot fend for themselves. The 2019 calendar sales have brought about so much development at the rehabilitation centre including the clinic upgrade, a generator, a plastic storage shed, cameras, screen floors, work benches, paint, clinic equipment, medication as well as operational costs. Over the years the calendar initiative has also bought three vehicles, the geese, antelope and baboon enclosure, new operation room and clinic and the employment of an education officer who has educated the many children and youth who come to CROW to learn about wildlife which is key to saving our animals. The calendar makes a massive difference to our vulnerable wildlife. Thank you to all our sponsors, role players and to those who purchase the calendar for once again helping us realise our goal,” she said.

Self-confessed reptile lover and CROW director, Clint Halkett-Siddall described the CROW team as absolutely phenomenal. “Everyone is here for the animals and for the right reasons. We have received just over 4000 animals from October last year to October this year so the numbers are quite staggering.

“CROW is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured wildlife and believes in action and education with regards to the protection of all natural resources. Education plays a major part in our programme. For the past six years, we have educated the public, built an education centre and hosted schools from around the country, teaching them about wildlife and given many a unique experience wildlife experience with some of our animals.
