School unites to celebrate cultural diversities

"This event gives our learners an opportunity to learn about different cultures and the varieties in food, clothes, and rituals. Learners also got an opportunity to perform different cultural dances," said principal, Silindile Msomi.

DURBAN South Primary School is a multi-cultural school and as such, the staff went out of its way on Thursday, 24 October, to celebrate all cultures. The importance of this event, according to the principal, Silindile Msomi, is for learners to know and respect the different cultures.

Nkazimulo Jojozi, a Grade 3 learner, has fun with her peers during a sassy dance routine.

“This event gives our learners an opportunity to learn about different cultures and the varieties in food, clothes, and rituals. Learners also got an opportunity to perform different cultural dances,” Silindile said.

She added that the day’s success could not be possible without the collaborative efforts of all those involved.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the educators for their dedication and hard work in training learners for their performances, Nonhlanhla Gqoma, a parent at the school, the Department of Parks and Recreation for the beautiful decorations, Monty Maharaj who sponsored meals for all learners and educators, Lusi Sesanti who gave a talk on Diwali, Shaeestha Tufail who gave a talk on Muslims and Buyi Gwiji gave a talk on the Zulu culture,” said Silindile.

Khanyisa Shandu, a Grade 5 learner, sets the stage ablaze with her performance.
