Wanderers bowlers compete in prawn festival

It was a weekend of great entertainment which got off to a ghoulish start

It was a weekend of great entertainment which got off to a ghoulish start on Friday evening, 1 November, at Durban Wanderers Club with DJ Tyrell entertaining the Halloween crowd late into the evening.

Saturday, 2 November, saw the Springboks and England rugby teams draw their supporters to watch the Rugby World Cup final on the main bars’ new big screen TV. It was a great final with the Springboks securing a well-deserved and well-supported victory. Sunday, 3 November, saw the main club host the ever popular prawn festival along with Samantha’s eisbein special.

It was a well supported event with the crowds enjoying good food, along with the great sounds of live band Reflex. Thanks to all for their hard work on the day and to all those who supported.

Friday’s various meat pack winners were: lamb pack – Ziya Anda, beef – Jan van de Wall, pork roast – Ian Demmer, beef roast – Richard Hendicott, chicken pack – Richard Hendicott, chicken – Mitch Mitchley.

The R700 snowball was a carry over as Robbie Carr was not present at the time of the draw. The Friday Lotto of R75 was a carry over as no one predicted the correct three numbers drawn.

Saturday, 9 November, sees the Thumpers MC host the Monsters MC blood run. Entrance is R20 and festivities begin at 11am until late. Contact Wendy Arendse on 072-367-8035 for stall bookings. Saturday, 21 December, will see the annual Christmas golf classic take place at Amanzimtoti Golf Course. Golfers can contact Mike Flack for further details on 083-227-1900.

The club’s function rooms – tavern, upstairs and downstairs are now fully renovated and available for hire. The two squash courts also have some un-allocated time slots for members and non-members. Contact the club on 031-462-2320 or pop-in for further enquiries.
