Athletes fly Umbilo Secondary and ward 68 flags high at eThekwini Games finals

A total of 10 gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals were won, the best that ward 68 has ever achieved since the introduction of the eThekwini Municipality Sports Championships three years ago.

“All three learners did exceptionally well. They lit up the stadium with their phenomenal performances and I am very proud of each of these athletes,” said deputy chairman of the Wentworth Sports Confederation, Neil Axford.

Luyanda and Melody will represent the eThekwini Municipality Region at the Salga Championship Games in December.

“Together, a total of 10 gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals were won, the best that ward 68 has ever achieved since the introduction of the eThekwini Municipality Sports Championships almost three years ago. On behalf of the Wentworth Sports Confederation, I’d like to thank the former principal of Umbilo Secondary School, Brian Joseph Muller, for giving the Wentworth Sports Confederation the opportunity to implement the blueprint document from the Department of Sport and Recreation,” said Neil.

He said that the confederation requests that more high schools encourage their learners to participate in the games next year as it allows schools in the community to partner with the municipality local sports structures in the ward to create an awareness of the eThekwini Municipality Sports Championship Game. “It also allows for learners to showcase their sporting abilities over 16 codes of sport and win an opportunity to represent the eThekwini Municipality sports team at the Salga Youth Championships.”
