Wentworth bowlers in top form at Tomasina

Saturday, 5 October, sees many of the club’s members travel to participate in the men’s Port Natal singles competition.

Bowls at Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) started with the Grand Rapid Spur any pairs competition on Wednesday morning, 25 September.

Despite a spirited performance by Amanzimtoti visitors, Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow, they finished in second spot with a 4+13. Four shots ahead of them were Dave Carroll and Mike Schudel who scooped the first prize. The second session went to Brian Smith and Herbie Roux.

In Thursday morning’s Wentworth breakfast trips competition the winners were the side skipped by Graham Bransby, supported by Brian Smith and Norman Webster, who ended the morning with a notable 4+16.

In second spot were Norman Moore, Dave Matthews and Claude Newman who finished seven shots behind the leaders. Second session winners were Dave le Roux, Phil Hill and Russell Fuller.

Friday’s Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls saw Graham Bransby, once again, skip his side to top spot on the podium. This time he was supported by Phil Hill and Ivor Aylward. Second spot was secured by Gerald C Royle, Kearan Lassak and Mike Schudel and the sportsmen’s prize went to Tom Cloete, Colin Nicholas and Ian Hayes.

Brian Smith’s number was pulled from the bag to give him the raffled chicken and pork shank and then again to secure him the first prize on the first 60/40 board. Dave le Roux pocketed the second prize from that board and Gerald C Royle and Tomcat Cavanagh scooped the spoils from the second board.

Sunday’s Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim pairs proved a successful outing for Gary Moffat and Lilah Nel who ended their morning with a resounding +28 shot difference to take home the first prize. In second spot were Dave le Roux and Bridget White and the second session prize went the way of the mother and son combination, Ruth Petzer and Mike Schudel.

Ruth took home the first board prize and Brian Smith’s lucky streak continued when he won the second board prize. The raffled chicken flattie went to Brenda Garland.

Club competitions are in full swing with the mixed Grace Hare trips, Roley Taylor pairs and the women’s veteran and points singles currently in progress. Members are reminded to keep an eye on the board for postings of these games.
