Fleeing armed robbers arrested

Two firearms were retrieved from the suspects with live rounds.

TWO men, aged 24 and 27, were charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition after holding two men on duty at gunpoint. The men were stationary on the corner of Richard Carte Road and Quality Street eastbound hosting a promotion for a company under a gazebo with a laptop on the table on Friday, 13 September.

“They were approached by four unknown men who indicated that they were interested in the product they were promoting. One of the suspects made his way two the kitchen area and returned with a black bag. The said suspect then produced a handheld firearm from the packet and pointed it at the victims, demanding vehicle keys from them. Upon noticing a Metro Police vehicle passing, the firearm was withdrawn, and the laptop was snatched from the presentation table,” said Brighton Beach SAPS’s corporate communications officer, Capt Louise le Roux.
